I am a sophomore and thought it was time to start looking for an internship at a local company. I was pleasantly surprised at an article I found on TechCrunch while looking for this summer internship. This article says that last year, salaries of up to $70,000 were common for the best students. This year, Facebook is said to be offering $92,000, and Google has increased some offers to $95,000 to get their share of graduates. Students with a Masters degree in Computer Science are being offered as much as $130,000 for associate product manager jobs at Google. This is great for all of us that are in this profession. I do not understand why everyone thinks that all the jobs are going overseas. While there are many jobs that overseas, jobs in this profession a there for to be filled. It is more competitive and competition only makes you better or should make you better. The salary does vary greatly due to company, location, industry, experience and benefits. It just goes back to what my father always said to me "Find something you have passion for and make a career in that and you shall be successful". What do you think about the computer industry job outlook? I like to hear from the seasoned veterans out there.

There are two great reasons for joining Newsvine but I’m keeping those to myself so here are two really good reasons:
1) It’s news from the microwave-No slow developing stories here…Get the latest and greatest as it is being “seeded”, reported and reviewed by thousands of other members.
2) Great exposure for those who contribute useful and interesting information. Move up the vine and make a name for yourself.

Gamers All Grown Up |
Have you ever been told that video games are for kids? I have many times and so I did a little research and look what I found out. I did a search on who plays video games and was directed to the ESA. A few facts are Sixty-nine percent of American heads of households play computer and video games. Ninety-three percent of people who make the actual purchase of computer games and 83% of people who make the actual purchase of video games are 18 years of age or older. The average age of the game buyer is 40 years old. Adult gamers have been playing an average of 12 years. Among most frequent gamers, adult males average 10 years for game playing, females for 8 years. Fifty-three percent of game players expect to be playing as much or more ten years from now than they do today. The computer gamers are thirty percent of most frequent game players are under eighteen years old. Twenty-six percent of most frequent game players are between 18 and 35 years old. Forty-four percent of most frequent game players are over 35 years old. The console gamers are forty percent of most frequent game players are under eighteen years old. Thirty-five percent of most frequent game players are between 18 and 35 years old. Twenty-five percent of most frequent game players are over 35 years old. So next time someone tells you that video games are for kids give them some these facts. Also tell them there is big money involved with video games. Gaming is now major league.

UltraPortable Air |
The MacBook Air is the thinnest laptop on the market. I have been looking for a more portable laptop for several months and the Air grabbed my consideration. Did pulling this laptop out of a manila folder get your attention like it did mine? There are a few things I do not like though is the limited ports, no ExpressCard or card-reader option and the battery is not user upgradable. These are things I believe will be easy to work around and that is why I went ahead and pre-ordered the Air . The price was right for my budget and since I carry my computer everywhere this will take the load off my shoulder. Once I receive the Air i will report on the functionality of it and how much of a load it took off. Who else has order a Macbook Air and what do you think?

A Salary Study |
So I was curious what the pay scale was for someone that received a bachelors degree in computer science. This was a real motivator. I plan on designing software and owning my own business and this little scale gives me an idea what my services are worth. Computer software engineers are one of the occupations projected to grow the fastest and add the most new jobs over the 2008-16 decade. Excellent job prospects are expected for applicants with at least bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or computer science and with practical work experience. The myth about all the tech jobs moving away from the States is just that, a myth. Students choosing computer science as a major have a great outlook. I am excited to receive my Degree and get started in this journey.

Cleveland’s Tremont District |
Lola is a new restaurant in Cleveland’s trendy neighborhood. Upon a visit with some close friends we dined at this newcomer to the neighborhood. First, let me start by saying the atmosphere was phenomenal! Although I was in Cleveland it certainly felt like New York! The three of us decided upon three opening appetizers to share. We chose the Crab Gnocchi, Heirloom Tomato Salad and Heritage Farms Fresh Bacon. If you are wondering why we ordered bacon then wonder no more! It is comprised of asparagus, truffle and poached egg. All three were simply a feast for the taste buds. For our main courses I ordered the Roasted Duck while my friends dined on the Venison and Salmon. The duck was prepared perfectly. Quite possibly the best duck I have had thus far. One is not to forget dessert, however! Once again, we chose three items from the menu and shared each. The “6 a.m. Special” was by far the most intriguing of the three. French toast was covered with maple-bacon ice cream and then topped with caramelized apples. Absolutely delicious! The Warm Chocolate Cake was nowhere near ordinary either! We complemented our meal with a bottle of the house Reisling. In all, this is an excellent compliment to Cleveland. I would definitely recommend not only visiting this trendy area but also Lola’s. Chef Michael Symon is a renowned chef, not only appearing as a challenger but winning on The Next Iron Chef America . His concoctions are one to enjoy if in the city.
